In 2019, I designed Triptych, a collaged three panel poster representing my three adult children and the different paths of life each of them has taken.

Triptych

Year: 2019

Medium: 18”x42” three panel poster, each designed with a paper and ink collage made out of selfies, postcards, and calendars.

Conception: In 2019, I decided to make a triptych poster focusing on my three adult children and the various places they were in their lives. The project was born out of seeing firsthand how all of their lives have taken vastly different paths, in different places, with different goals, and different mindsets.

Making: When I was planning the design for this project, I decided each panel would represent one of my children and demonstrate where they were in their lives and mindsets. I started by asking each of them to take a selfie and send it to me. After printing their pictures, I designed the panels using hand-done, cut-and-paste paper collage, made from postcards and calendars. Each of their panels incorporates their selfies as a centerpiece, their individual initials, and their mindsets: head on fire, head in the sky, and head in the clouds. I scanned and compiled the designs into a three paneled poster, signing the corner with a San Francisco streetcar and a “YO” to represent myself.

Legacy: I printed a set of 20 numbered prints, which were signed and distributed.
