In 2020, moved by the many young students who lack trusted adults to ask their most personal and embarrassing questions, I and long-time friend and partner Kangle Lin created Social K+Y, a dynamic platform receiving and answering young-adults’ important questions ethically and responsibly.

Social K+Y

Year: 2020

Medium: Video web-series

Conception: Social K+Y was a passion-project turned video series between myself and longtime friend and business partner Kangle Lin. While working together at the University of San Francisco, Kangle and I were regularly approached by young students seeking advice on subjects ranging from basic hygiene and care to deeply sensitive interpersonal issues. We realized from these conversations that a lot of the 18-25 year old students didn't have anybody in their lives whom they felt comfortable asking these questions and wondered about the other students who were too shy even to ask us. Therefore, we created Social K+Y, enabling young people to ask us questions anonymously, to which we would reply with concise and well-researched answers.

Making: We created an anonymous form and shared it with our school community, requesting that people send in any awkward questions they wish to know the answer to. For each video, we spent hours researching and building a script so that we could ethically and concisely answer the questions.

Impact: We ended up receiving dozens of responses to our form as well as thank you messages over social media from students who were grateful for our content.

Legacy: The series is currently on indefinite hiatus while myself and Kangle Lin pursue our other projects, but we look forward to a time when we’ll both be able to continue developing this idea.
